Vase / Candlestick in Faience “Snurran” – Stig Lindberg – Gustavsberg Studio
A lovely combined vase and candlestick of model “Snurran” designed by Stig Lindberg at Gustavsberg Studio. It was designed to be able to use both as a vase and a candle stick and you can turn it upside down and it works the same. It is 20,5 x 8,5 cm (8,2″ x 3,4″) and 12 cm (4,8″) high. It is in very good condition except from some minor marks on the inside of the vases.
In 1942, Gustavsberg opened the exhibition “Faience painted in spring” in Stockholm. The press screening of this exhibition was attended by a lot of journalists because an invitation card made of faience had been sent out, which can perhaps be considered one of the first ingenious PR strategies in the industry. These faiences became incredibly popular and have since become somewhat of a hallmark of Stig Lindberg’s design. The forms were created by Stig Lindberg and Gustavsberg had a number of faience painters who painted these characteristic patterns.y.
